Put sugar, water, and bitters in a glass. Stir gently until sugar dissolves. Add one or two ice cubes to glass and pour in bourbon. More ice can be added if desired.

Smarts said on 2009-01-14 07:34:50.563 Where's the fruit! It's not an Old Fashioned without the muddled fruit. You must be the ones teaching these your idiots how to mix the old drinks. In the last three chain restaurants where I've asked for a Bourbon Old Fashioned, I've either been told they can't do one, can but have no orange (that was the best one), or they just poured Jack over ice and garnished it. YUCK!
